Every now and then, it’s just great to get away. Life can get so stressful, which is why vacationing can be a healthy great way to relax and unwind. We spend so many days of our lives giving to other people. Every once in a while, it’s good to give to ourselves.

My husband and I just returned from a truly wonderful vacation in Belize. It’s been our first real get away in 10 years.

At first, I really didn’t want to go. I couldn’t think about leaving work or my responsibilities just so I could have some “R n R”…or at least that’s what I kept telling myself. But I also couldn’t avoid the fact that my job and accumulated stresses where starting to take it’s toll on me.

While you really don’t have to go anywhere ‘exotic’ to get away, we figured the best way to get away was to…get away. At the risk of over inflating expectations, I really cannot say how glad I am that we did. The new sights, sounds, and people was exactly what I needed.

Our lodge itself was beautiful. I would have been happy staying in the room with my mind in a days for a week. for 5 days. We hiked, biked, and paddled up the Macal river to the Botanical Garden. It was quite an adventure travel.

What did I learn? Our minds and our bodies weren’t meant to be cooped up in a tiny cubicle from 9 to 5. What’s the point of working hard all if you’re not going to stop every now and then to enjoy life? Maybe but life isn’t all about work. Maybe if more people took a break every now and then, there wouldn’t be a need for sleeping pills or anti-anxiety medicines. Maybe families would be closer if they shared special moments away from the norm.
