Detox For Better Health

posted by Tanya R in February 22nd, 2008

Detox is the removal of toxic substances from the body. Even though detox is primarily thought of as a treatment for alcohol or drug dependence, the term is also used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body.

This is a sample two-week detox diet plan to support detoxification by increasing elimination from the body, cleansing the colon, enhancing circulation to clear toxic substances, eliminating foods from the diet that require detoxification or are allergenic, and providing nutrients to support and protect the liver, the main organ involved in detoxification.

Hypothyroidism Can Hurt Your Weight Loss Efforts

posted by Tanya R in January 22nd, 2008

Your thyroid dictates much of your metabolism, any malfunction or disease afflicting this area may cause you to have problems in metabolism leading to a drastic problem with your weight.

Hypothyroidism slows the metabolism until the body gains weight at an incredible rate. This condition can cause a general weakness in the body and needs special treatment. If left untreated, hypothyroidism can cause serious health problems.

Symptoms of Hypothyroidism

  1. Fatigue
  2. Weakness
  3. Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
  4. Coarse, dry hair
  5. Dry, rough pale skin
  6. Hair loss
  7. Cold intolerance (can’t tolerate the cold like those around you)
  8. Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
  9. Constipation
  10. Depression
  11. Irritability
  12. Memory loss
  13. Abnormal menstrual cycles
  14. Decreased libido

Many people with hypothyroidism don’t seek medical treatment because they don’t realize their is a problem. They may accept their symptoms of fatigue, muscle weakness, dry skin, depression, feeling cold, and constipation as signs of aging. The best way to be sure is to get regular check ups from your doctor.

When you have hypothyroidism, be sure to:

  • Follow your provider’s instructions for taking your medicine.
  • Get your thyroid hormone level checked when your provider suggests.
  • Keep your follow-up appointments.

While hypothyroidism cannot be prevented, treatment can be simple and inexpensive.

Food Options for Busy Dieters

posted by Tanya R in January 18th, 2008

For many dieters, losing weight is not very easy. Even with the best of intentions, many people lack the time and discipline it takes to modify their diet to encourage healthy weight loss. With today’s hectic lifestyles, who really has time to cook — let alone measure and count calories?

Purchasing Pre Packaged Frozen Foods

I know some people who have actually resorted to purchasing pre-packaged frozen diet foods such as lean cuisine or weight watchers to help them shed a few pounds, but is this an effective way to lose weight?

Some say yes, some say no.

Some people feel that the low calorie, low fat, and small portions frozen foods offer help them stay on course with their diet plans. Skeptics, on the other hand, are afraid that the portions are too small…and their hunger will sabotage their weight loss efforts.

It’s all about what you eat that makes the difference.

Purchasing pre packaged foods can help you stay on track, but you have to be careful what foods you buy. You want to pick meals that are low in sodium, saturated fats, and chemicals.

Food delivery services

Many folks have found the convince of food delivery services. For example, The Chefs Diet is the largest and most popular Zone diet food delivery service currently on the market. It is a healthy and convenient way to shed a few pounds.

The Chefs Diet is based first and foremost on the idea that your food should be appealing. Unlike many trend diets, the Chefs Diet isn’t a high cab diet or a high protein diet or any of that stuff that makes diets so hard to stick with. Instead, the Chefs Diet is a balanced diet, which has a balanced proportion of protein and “good fats” and a slightly higher proportion of carbs.

The Chefs Diet is more valuable than pre-packaged meals from the grocery store because of variety, quality, and freshness. The service offers Zone diet approved meal plans, kosher diets, kids diets, glycemic index diets, and more. Chefs Diet is a great gourmet meal delivery program for anyone who does not want to spend money on any groceries or eating out and it is a service that helps busy dieters stay on track.
