Detox is a natural way of removing toxins from the body. These toxins or anything else that can harm body tissue are transformed chemically to less harmful compounds and excreted via stools or urine.

Sources of toxins include those produced in the body during normal functions, such as the ammonia produced during the breakdown of protein, and chemicals such as pesticides, household cleaners, food additives, drugs, pollution, cigarette smoke, and heavy metals like lead that enter the body when we ingest or inhale them.

There are many different types of detox diets. Generally, a detox diet is a short-term diet that minimizes the amount of chemicals ingested, emphasizes foods that provide the vitamins the body needs for detoxification, and contains foods that draw out and eliminate toxins by increasing the frequency of bowel movements and urination.

Research suggests that many chemicals we ingest can become deposited in fat cells in our bodies. A diet that is deficient in certain nutrients may also impair our natural ability to detoxify chemicals, which can further leads to their build-up in the body.

The cumulative load, called the "body burden", is thought to lead to illness and has been linked to hormonal imbalance, impaired immune function, nutritional deficiency, and an inefficient metabolism. Signs are thought to include indigestion, bad breath, fatigue, poor skin, and muscle pain.

Why is it that some people are naturally overweight while others are thin while eating a lot more each day?

Sometimes, the best way to cure obesity is not by cutting calories. It's by cutting the wrong kind of calories.

Certain types of food can accelerate weight gain such as simple sugars or bad fats. If you have trouble loosing weight, you need to decrease the amount of processed carbs and saturated fats. Instead you need to substitute in complex carbs and healthy fats.

Detox is the removal of toxic substances from the body. Even though detox is primarily thought of as a treatment for alcohol or drug dependence, the term is also used to refer to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body.

This is a sample two-week detox diet plan to support detoxification by increasing elimination from the body, cleansing the colon, enhancing circulation to clear toxic substances, eliminating foods from the diet that require detoxification or are allergenic, and providing nutrients to support and protect the liver, the main organ involved in detoxification.

For many dieters, losing weight is not very easy. Even with the best of intentions, many people lack the time and discipline it takes to modify their diet to encourage healthy weight loss. With today's hectic lifestyles, who really has time to cook -- let alone measure and count calories?

Purchasing Pre Packaged Frozen Foods

I know some people who have actually resorted to purchasing pre-packaged frozen diet foods such as lean cuisine or weight watchers to help them shed a few pounds, but is this an effective way to lose weight?

Some say yes, some say no.

Some people feel that the low calorie, low fat, and small portions frozen foods offer help them stay on course with their diet plans. Skeptics, on the other hand, are afraid that the portions are too small...and their hunger will sabotage their weight loss efforts.

It's all about what you eat that makes the difference.

Purchasing pre packaged foods can help you stay on track, but you have to be careful what foods you buy. You want to pick meals that are low in sodium, saturated fats, and chemicals.

Food delivery services

Many folks have found the convince of food delivery services. For example, The Chefs Diet is the largest and most popular Zone diet food delivery service currently on the market. It is a healthy and convenient way to shed a few pounds.

The Chefs Diet is based first and foremost on the idea that your food should be appealing. Unlike many trend diets, the Chefs Diet isn't a high cab diet or a high protein diet or any of that stuff that makes diets so hard to stick with. Instead, the Chefs Diet is a balanced diet, which has a balanced proportion of protein and "good fats" and a slightly higher proportion of carbs.

The Chefs Diet is more valuable than pre-packaged meals from the grocery store because of variety, quality, and freshness. The service offers Zone diet approved meal plans, kosher diets, kids diets, glycemic index diets, and more. Chefs Diet is a great gourmet meal delivery program for anyone who does not want to spend money on any groceries or eating out and it is a service that helps busy dieters stay on track.

You've been watching your diet religiously for 3 weeks now. You've dropped some weight and are feeling great. But then, you get a call from your friends. You're invited for a little fun this Friday night at your favorite restaurant.

You've been so good, you deserve some leeway right? Or will your fun ruin your hard work?

You should never have to leave a restaurant feeling as though you had to compromise your well-being. There are some healthy habits you can adopt right now that can make your dining experience enjoyable and guilt free.

Can you identify a healthy restaurant meal?

There are at least 6 components to a healthful meal, write these down and commit them to memory:

A moderate number of calories with appropriate portion sizes.

A good balance of fat, protein, and carbohydrate.

Reasonable amounts of healthy fats and an absence of unhealthy fats.

Lean protein.

Minimally processed ingredients.

Alcohol free drinks without added sugar or chemicals.

The first thing to watch out for is gigantic portion sizes that are meant to feed a family of five. You can enjoy a restaurant meal without compromising your diet simply by eating a half (or less) of what is served. Ask your waitress to bring you a 'to-go' box before your order comes out. When your food is served, divide out your portion size immediately and place the left over in your 'to-go' container.

When it comes to choosing foods from the menu, look for low fat foods that have a good balance of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Read the menu descriptions. You want to look for words like 'lean', 'sauteed', grilled and avoid words like 'fried' or 'breaded'.

When it comes to sides, think healthy complex carbohydrates. Instead of mashed potatoes or vegetables drowning in butter, choose a salad or steamed vegetables.

Finally, try to skip the dessert. If your sweet tooth gets the better of you, split your dessert.

Another option is to indulge in a dessert else where. You can find lower calorie sweets that won't compromise your diet at they supermarket. Who knows, by the time you leave the restaurant you might not want dessert anyway.
